Rev. Loos Biography

Ben has been serving First Lutheran since the spring of 2012. He and his wife Christine have two children, Josiah ad Juliette. Ben’s hometown is in Angola, NY where his father, Don Loos, serves as pastor at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church and his mother, Maxine Loos, was a Spanish teacher. Christine grew up in West Henrietta, NY where her mother, Margaret DiFonzo, is a Registered Nurse and her father, Nicholas DiFonzo, is a professor of psychology at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Ben received a BA in Psychology and Communication at Houghton College, Houghton, NY, in 2007 and Christine received a BA in Psychology and Writing from the same school in 2006.  After Ben graduated, he and Christine were married in August, 2007 and moved to Concordia Seminary—St. Louis two weeks later. Prior to accepting our Call, Ben worked part-time as an office assistant for the graduate school and as the soccer coach for the Concordia Seminary team.  In addition, he sang for the Seminary Chorus and for Laudamus, the Seminary’s touring choir. Before going on vicarage, Ben and Christine participated in a one-year exchange program which allowed him to study theology at Cambridge University, in Cambridge, England through Westfield House, a seminary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of England. He completed his vicarage at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Fredericksburg, VA and moved back to St. Louis in August of 2011 to complete his M.Div. studies.

Christine has worked as a member of AmeriCorps, at Lutheran Hour Ministries, and as a barista. She also enjoyed singing with Ben in the Houghton College Choir, the college’s touring ensemble. Ben and Christine together enjoy hiking, bird watching, singing, and reading.  They have also traveled extensively throughout Europe and consider their week in Ireland to be the favorite so far. Ben also enjoys soccer, tennis, golf, and will try just about any sport if given the opportunity. Josiah has taken to the outdoors as well and loves exploring outside. He is already saying many different words and enjoys reading books with his mommy and daddy.
